Mum and Dad were adventurous with their fruit and vegetables. Nothing was off the table – we tried everything. We didn’t like everything, but we tried everything!
I remember those Saturday afternoons when they’d come home from the fruit markets and show us their spoils. I haven’t seen a banana passionfruit since, but Tamarillos are in abundance at Coles and Woolworths in the cooler months.


At 98c each ,they’re cheaper than a chocolate bar and make for a great snack. I gave one to our Little Girl after breakfast and she just loved it.


When the lady at Woolworths asked me what they tastes like, I said, “like a kiwi and a tomato got married and had a baby.” She looked rather disgusted at the thought. Then I wanted to say, “like a passionfruit and grape” but that doesn’t do it justice either.
How would you describe it?
